What is a Tutorial?

Our unique evidence-based tutorials are designed to ensure success with an enjoyable, step by step, world class learning experience. Students meet weekly with their tutor to develop an individualized program to develop the skills you need, while working at your own pace. A tutorial is an ancient method of learning by doing and developing real knowledge, skills and abilities.

One to eight students is a common tutorial size. The relatively small number of students under each teacher allows for close and supportive personal attention. Tutorials also provide you with a simple, fast and effective tool for developing your own personalized “exercise as medicine” program to help prevent or manage many of the most common chronic health conditions.

About Your Tutor

Jacqui Shumway, M.A. is dedicated to the joy of active living.  She combines western therapeutic kinesiology (physical therapy as prevention) with Medical Qi Gong healing exercises from China and the meditational martial art of Tai Chi. An old Chinese saying is that “The greatest healer is a teacher” and Jacqui is a master teacher... who also loves to have fun!

Dedicated to providing students with compelling information on health issues coupled with ancient wisdom, Jacqui inspires students to have fun taking control of their own health through her compassionate attention to healing emotions through physical movement.

With over 30 years experience in developing, teaching, and coordinating clinical exercise therapy and alternative medicine programs at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, St. Joseph Hospital, Metropolitan State University, Red Rocks Community College, and the Colorado School of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Jacqui is currently Community Outreach Director at Living Younger Longer Institute.

Advocacy and Community Service

Her community health crusade to recognize exercise as a powerful integration of western and eastern medical interventions got Jacqui appointed and elected to advise and serve on local, state, and national boards, serving many years as Western Region Director for the National Association of Health and Fitness and Vice President of the Colorado Governor’s Council for Physical Fitness. Winner of numerous awards, Jacqui has twice been a featured presenter at the Oxford Roundtable at Oxford University, England.
